Working Holiday (IEC)

The International Experience Canada (IEC) program offers an exciting opportunity for young people aged 18 to 35 to live and work in Canada on a temporary basis (1 or 2 years).
Citizens of countries that have a bilateral Youth Mobility Agreement with Canada may be eligible to receive an Open Work Permit, allowing them to gain valuable international work experience.
IEC Program Categories
The IEC program has three categories designed to suit different goals and career stages:

1. Working Holiday Participants in this category receive an open work permit valid for one to two years. This type of permit allows individuals to work anywhere in Canada for almost any employer, providing maximum flexibility to travel and explore while earning income.

2. Young Professionals This category is ideal for individuals seeking to advance their professional careers. Applicants must:

  • Have a signed job offer or employment contract with a Canadian employer before applying.
  • The position must fall under NOC Skill Type Level 0, A, or B.
  • The job must contribute to the applicant’s professional development.

3. International Co-op (Internship) This stream is for post-secondary students from participating countries who wish to complete a work placement or internship in Canada.
Applicants must:

  • Be enrolled at a post-secondary institution in their home country.
  • Secure a co-op placement with a Canadian employer before applying.
  • Remain registered students throughout the internship.
