Intra Company Transfer Start Up Or Transferee (ICT)

The Intra-Company Transfer (ICT) Program allows international companies to temporarily transfer qualified employees to Canada to improve management efficiency, expand operations, and enhance competitiveness. If your company plans to open a parent company, branch, subsidiary, or affiliate in Canada, you may qualify for a Canadian work permit under the ICT Start-Up Visa stream. Likewise, employees with specialized knowledge may transfer to a Canadian branch or affiliate without a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). Generally, start-ups should have a physical location in Canada. However, executives or senior managers may initially use a representative’s address until business premises are secured.

Realistic plans to staff and operate the Canadian entity.
Financial capacity to start operations and pay employees.
For managerial transfers, the business must be large enough to support multiple executive or management roles.
For specialized knowledge transfers, the employee’s work must be directed by a manager within the organization.

Be employed by a multinational company and seeking to work in a parent, subsidiary, branch, or affiliate in Canada.
Transfer to a legitimate and ongoing Canadian operation with a qualifying business relationship.
Hold or transfer into an executive, senior managerial, or specialized knowledge role.
Have been employed full-time by the foreign company for at least one year in the past three years.
Intend to come to Canada on a temporary basis.
