This program allows Canadian citizens or individuals with valid Canadian PR to sponsor their parents and grandparents for Canadian permanent residency. At the beginning of September 2021, IRCC planned to send invitations to over 30,000 eligible applicants. The COVID-19 pandemic created significant challenges for families with parents living outside Canada, and many candidates were unsuccessful in 2020. This year, IRCC will invite approximately 30,000 people to apply through the Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship program.
